A typical home charger draws 7.4 kW on single-phase or 11–22 kW on three-phase — figures that, added to your existing consumption, frequently exceed the approved power of an ordinary single-phase connection. For this reason, connecting an EV station usually means either a power increase or a switch to a three-phase connection, plus a dedicated circuit with a suitable breaker and residual-current protection for EV charging.

You need an EV charger connection when you buy an electric or plug-in hybrid car and want to charge it at home, at your business or in a car park, safely and without tripping the protections. Typical cases: you install a 7.4 kW or 11–22 kW wallbox and your current power is no longer enough; you want a dedicated circuit, separate from the rest of the house; you need three-phase for fast charging; or you are setting up several charging points at a company. How it works — step by step

  1. Assessing the Power and the Charger. We check your current approved power, your existing connection (single-phase or three-phase) and the power of the charger you want to install. We then determine whether a new dedicated circuit is enough or whether a power increase or a three-phase connection is required.
  2. Operator File (Power Increase or New Connection). If your current power does not cover the charger, we prepare and submit to Retele Electrice Romania the power-increase or three-phase connection request, to obtain a new approved power through the ATR (Technical Connection Approval).
  3. Connection and EV Circuit Works. As an ANRE-certified company, we carry out the connection change (where needed) and the dedicated charger circuit: correctly sized cable, dedicated breaker and the residual-current protection required for EV charging, in line with the regulations.
  4. Charger Installation and Commissioning. We connect the wallbox to the dedicated circuit, check the protections and commission the station. We prepare the DIU (Utilisation Installation Dossier) where the connection change requires it.

If a power increase or a three-phase connection is needed, the process with the operator Retele Electrice Romania applies, and the overall timeline is approximately 4–12 weeks, depending on the ATR and the works.

FAQ — EV charger connection

Do I need three-phase for an EV charging station?

Not necessarily. A 7.4 kW wallbox runs on single-phase if you have enough approved power. For fast charging at 11–22 kW, or when your total consumption exceeds about 11 kW, you need a three-phase connection. We assess free of charge which option suits you.

How much does an EV charger connection cost?

It depends on what is required: a dedicated circuit on an installation with enough power costs less, while a power increase (from 350 lei) or a three-phase connection (from 2,900 lei) adds to the cost. The operator's connection tariff and the charger installation may be added on top. We provide a clear quote after the assessment.

Can I charge my electric car from an ordinary socket?

Only occasionally and at low power (~2.3 kW), through a dedicated, checked socket. It is not recommended long-term, because a non-dedicated socket and circuit can overheat. The safe solution is a wallbox on its own circuit, with the correct protections.

What protection must the EV circuit have?

An EV charging circuit needs a dedicated breaker and residual-current protection suitable for the fault currents specific to charging (a type A RCD with DC detection, or type B, depending on the station's requirements). We size these to the wallbox data sheet and the regulations in force.

Do you also connect stations for businesses, not just homes?

Yes. We connect charging stations at company premises, car parks or commercial spaces, including multiple charging points, where a three-phase connection is usually required and, sometimes, a power increase or a dedicated solution set out in the ATR.
