A grid extension becomes necessary when your land is not close to an existing network and a standard connection is not enough. It may involve an overhead power line (LEA), an underground line (LES) and, in some cases, a transformer station. SUN WATT is ANRE-certified for both design and execution, operating across Bucharest, Ilfov and Giurgiu. As a single partner, we manage the entire process so you do not have to deal with the operator on your own.
When you need it
You need a grid extension in situations such as: building on an isolated plot (new subdivisions, reconverted agricultural land); when the distance from the nearest pole or connection point exceeds the limit of a simple connection; when the requested power cannot be supplied by the current network; for groups of houses, warehouses or farms with high consumption; or when the Technical Connection Approval (ATR - the operator's official document setting out the technical connection conditions) requires a new section of network to be built.
How it works — step by step
- Step 1: Assessment and Connection Request. We assess the site, the distance to the existing network and the power you need (single-phase 230V or three-phase 400V). We then prepare and submit the documents to Retele Electrice Romania to establish whether and to what extent an extension is required.
- Step 2: Obtaining the Technical Connection Approval (ATR). The operator issues the ATR (Technical Connection Approval), specifying the length and type of network section (overhead LEA or underground LES), whether a transformer station is needed, and the connection tariff. Based on the ATR, we prepare a personalised quote.
- Step 3: Connection Contract and Design. Once the contract is signed and the connection tariff is paid, we produce the technical design for the extension in line with the applicable standards and the conditions set out in the ATR. The design is checked and approved according to the operator's requirements.
- Step 4: Carrying Out the Extension Works. Our ANRE-certified team carries out the work: installing poles, stringing the overhead conductor or laying the underground cable, the connection itself and any transformer-station works. We use compliant materials and follow all safety standards.
- Step 5: Documentation, Meter and Energisation. We compile the Utilisation Installation Dossier (DIU - the file documenting your internal electrical installation, prepared by an ANRE-certified electrician). We hand the documentation to the operator and assist you through to meter installation, energisation and the signing of the supply contract.
Required documents
- Identity document of the holder (owner/beneficiary)
- Proof of ownership (up-to-date land registry extract)
- Urban planning certificate (for new builds)
- Site plan and location plan
- Connection request (completed together with us)
- Consent of neighbours/landowners where the route crosses other properties
- Details of the requested power and the intended use of the consumption
Why bransam.ro
- A single partner for the entire process (request, ATR, design, execution, DIU, energisation)
- ANRE-certified for both design and execution, avoiding a fragmented project
- We handle all the paperwork and the relationship with Retele Electrice Romania
- A correctly sized solution from the start (single-phase/three-phase, overhead/underground)
- Complete documentation, avoiding repeated returns for approval and acceptance
- Experience with connection files across Bucharest, Ilfov and Giurgiu
How long it takes
Issuing the Technical Connection Approval (ATR) takes a few weeks from the moment a complete file is submitted. For extensions, the total time to energisation ranges from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the complexity (length, route and whether a transformer station is required). Exact timeframes are confirmed once the ATR is issued and the contract is signed.
