An overhead electrical connection links your property to the grid via a conductor mounted on poles, making it the fastest and most economical solution wherever poles are nearby. SUN WATT installs single-phase (230V) and three-phase (400V) overhead connections from 1,800 lei (labour plus materials, excluding operator fees), as a firm certified by ANRE (the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority) for both design and installation. The indicative timeframe from application to energisation is around 4 to 12 weeks, and the final connection tariff is set out in the ATR (Technical Connection Approval) issued by Retele Electrice Romania (Distributie Energie Electrica Romania).
When you need it
An overhead connection is the right choice when there is an existing overhead network with poles close to your property. It is faster and cheaper than an underground connection in these cases. It suits new homes, plots being developed, and any situation where you want to avoid the digging and trenching that an underground connection requires. A single-phase connection (230V) is sufficient for typical household consumption, while a three-phase connection (400V) is recommended for high-demand equipment such as a heat pump, a workshop, or an EV charging station.
How it works — step by step
- Connection application and documents. We submit the connection application to Retele Electrice Romania (formerly E-Distributie Muntenia) on your behalf, together with the required documents. We work out with you the power you need and the type of overhead connection: single-phase (230V) for ordinary consumption or three-phase (400V) for high demand.
- Technical Connection Approval (ATR). The distribution operator reviews the application and issues the ATR (Technical Connection Approval), the document that sets out the technical connection conditions and the connection tariff. The ATR is the stage at which the overhead connection solution and the exact cost are officially confirmed.
- Connection contract and payment of the tariff. The connection contract is signed with the operator and the tariff set out in the ATR is paid. Only after this stage can the actual design and installation of the connection begin.
- Design and installation of the overhead connection. The SUN WATT team, certified by ANRE, designs and installs the overhead connection: running the conductor from the operator's pole, fitting the connection cabinet and the protection equipment, all in line with the approved design and current standards.
- Utilization Installation Dossier and energisation. We prepare the DIU (Utilization Installation Dossier) through an ANRE-certified electrician, after which the operator fits the meter and the supply is energised. Signing a supply contract with an energy supplier completes the connection.
Required documents
- Owner's identity document (identity card)
- Proof of ownership of the property or land (a recent Land Registry extract)
- Town planning certificate (for new builds)
- Site plan and location plan
- Connection application (we complete this on your behalf)
- Building permit, where applicable
Why bransam.ro

- A firm certified by ANRE for both design and installation, so the works are accepted by the distribution operator
- We know the Retele Electrice Romania procedures across Bucharest, Ilfov and Giurgiu, and how to avoid dossier hold-ups

- Honest advice on choosing between single-phase and three-phase and on sizing the contracted power
How long it takes
As a guide, the ATR is issued within a few weeks of submitting a complete dossier, and the whole journey, from application to energisation, usually takes around 4 to 12 weeks. The timeframes depend on the distribution operator, the complexity of the work, and the volume of applications during that period.
