How Much It Costs to Run Power from the Pole to Your House in 2026
The question “how much does it cost to run power from the pole to the house” does not have a single answer, because the price is calculated according to several technical factors. Below you will find the indicative prices for 2026, the factors that influence them and the official steps up to the actual grid connection (racordare), in line with the procedures of the operator Retele Electrice Romania S.A. (formerly E-Distributie Muntenia / Enel, part of the PPC group).
Indicative prices in 2026
The costs below are charged by SUN WATT SRL, a company ANRE-certified for the execution and design of electrical connections in Bucharest, Ilfov and Giurgiu. The final price for each job is set through the ATR (Aviz Tehnic de Racordare / Technical Connection Approval) issued by the distribution operator.
| Type of work | Power / specifications | Indicative price (from) |
|---|---|---|
| Single-phase connection | ~11 kW | 1,800 lei |
| Three-phase connection | 400V | 2,900 lei |
| Underground connection | single/three-phase | 3,500 lei |
| Temporary site connection | temporary | 2,200 lei |
| Connection dossier + design | documentation | 900 lei |
| ATR assistance | consultancy | 350 lei |
| DIU (Utilisation Installation Dossier) | nationwide | 1,200 lei |
| Power upgrade (spor de putere) | existing upgrade | 350 lei |
| Earthing system | bonding installation | 900 lei |
| PRAM check | measurements | 250 lei |

Why the price varies: the 3 main factors
The cost of bringing power from the pole to the house is not fixed, because every building has a different configuration. Three elements weigh most heavily in the final price.
1. The distance from the pole to the building
The further the grid pole is from the house’s electrical panel, the greater the cable length and, consequently, the cost of materials and labour. Over short distances (under 30-40 metres, within the connection zone), the connection is usually included in the base price. For long distances, additional poles or grid extension may be required, which significantly changes the cost estimate and is reflected directly in the technical solution set out in the ATR.
2. Overhead vs. underground
The type of route makes an important difference:
- Overhead connection – the cable is mounted on poles, it is faster to install and cheaper. It is the standard solution in many residential areas.
- Underground connection – the cable runs through a buried trench, which is more aesthetically pleasing and better protected, but involves excavation, ducting and reinstatement of the ground. That is why it starts from 3,500 lei, above the overhead option.
The choice is not always up to you: in some areas, the operator or the local urban planning regulations require the underground option.
3. The requested power (single-phase vs. three-phase)
The power requested determines the type of connection:
- Single-phase (~11 kW) – sufficient for an ordinary home with standard consumption (lighting, appliances, gas boiler). Starts from 1,800 lei.
- Three-phase (400V) – required for large loads: heat pumps, fast car chargers, workshops, industrial equipment. Starts from 2,900 lei.
If you already have a connection but the power is no longer sufficient, you do not have to redo everything — there is the power upgrade (spor de putere) solution, from 350 lei.
What goes into the total cost of the connection
Many owners think only of the “cable from the pole”, but a complete grid connection also includes the documentation side, which is mandatory in order to receive power legally. The typical components are:
- The connection dossier and design – the technical documentation submitted to the operator (from 900 lei).
- The ATR – the approval through which Retele Electrice Romania sets the solution and the final connection tariff. We can help you with ATR assistance from 350 lei.
- The execution of the connection – the actual work, overhead or underground.
- The DIU (Dosarul Instalatiei de Utilizare / Utilisation Installation Dossier) – required for energisation (punere sub tensiune); we carry it out nationwide, from 1,200 lei.
- The earthing system and the PRAM check – for the safety of the installation (from 900 lei and from 250 lei respectively).
For a complete project, see the electrical connection (bransament) service. If you urgently need power on a site, the temporary connection option starts from 2,200 lei.
Example of an indicative estimate
To understand how the costs add up, here is an illustrative estimate (the figures remain indicative, with the final price being given by the ATR):
| Component | Single-phase house, overhead | Three-phase house, underground |
|---|---|---|
| Connection dossier + design | from 900 lei | from 900 lei |
| Connection execution | from 1,800 lei | from 3,500 lei |
| DIU | from 1,200 lei | from 1,200 lei |
| Earthing system | from 900 lei | from 900 lei |
| Indicative total | from 4,800 lei | from 6,500 lei |
These sums may decrease or increase depending on the distance, the specifics of the ground and the operator’s requirements. Our recommendation is to start from an estimate in the connection cost calculator and then request a firm quote.
How to determine the exact price for your case
The only way to find out the real amount is to go through the official steps:
- The connection request and the submission of the dossier to the operator.
- The issuing of the ATR by Retele Electrice Romania, which sets the technical solution and the connection tariff.
- The execution by an ANRE-certified company and the energisation (punere sub tensiune) following the DIU.
As a company with ANRE certification for execution and design, we manage the entire process, from documentation to the final connection. For a free assessment of your situation, contact us or call 0733 097 440.
Note: all the prices in this article are indicative and valid for the Bucharest / Ilfov / Giurgiu area. The final connection tariff is the one communicated through the ATR by the distribution operator.
